Kansas City Chiefs to Add Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III to Boost Offense

The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to bolster their offensive lineup by securing the services of Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III on a lucrative three-year contract worth $45 million. This acquisition is expected to inject new energy into the team's offense, offering crucial support for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Walker, who shone in the Super Bowl 60 with an impressive 161 yards from scrimmage, played a pivotal role in leading the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in February. His standout performance not only earned him the Super Bowl MVP title but also marked him as the first running back since 1998 to achieve this accolade.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed on Monday that Walker is on the verge of signing the multi-million dollar deal with the Chiefs. This news coincides with the announcement of tight end Travis Kelce's decision to postpone his retirement and return for a 14th season in the NFL in 2026 at Arrowhead.

With the addition of Walker to the team, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is anticipated to benefit significantly, especially as he continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in December of the previous year. Notably, Mahomes rushed for 422 yards in the past season, a statistic that underscored the Chiefs' struggle in the running game behind players like Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco, the latter of whom was hampered by injuries.

During the playoffs, Walker showcased his prowess by contributing 313 rushing yards and four touchdowns in three pivotal games that led the Seahawks to their Super Bowl triumph. In the regular season, he amassed 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns with an impressive average of 4.6 yards per carry, sharing the workload with Zach Charbonnet before taking on a more prominent role due to his teammate's late-season injury.

Walker, who was drafted from Michigan State in the second round in 2022, demonstrated his potential by achieving 1,050 rushing yards and a career-best nine touchdowns in his rookie year, solidifying his reputation as a promising talent in the league.
