Kamwenge, Uganda – KCCA FC surged to the top of the Uganda Premier League standings following a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Mbarara City in Friday's showdown at Kamwenge Stadium.
The Kasasiro Boys opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Herbert Achayi expertly headed home Joel Sserunjogi's pinpoint corner kick. However, Mbarara City responded swiftly, with Muhammad Kanyike weaving past defenders to equalize in the 26th minute.
KCCA regained control early in the second half as Ivan Ahimbisibwe powered another header past the keeper, capitalizing on Achayi's precise cross. Despite a nervy moment when Wycliff Ahumuza's errant backpass nearly gifted a goal, KCCA's defense held firm against Mbarara's late onslaught.
With this victory, KCCA now leads the league table with 17 points from eight matches, while Mbarara City remains anchored in 15th place with just five points.
"This win reflects our resilience. We'll build on this momentum," said a KCCA team official post-match.
The result sets up an intriguing title race as the 2025/26 season progresses, with KCCA demonstrating their championship credentials.
