NBA legend Kevin Durant is making waves in the basketball world with his move to the Houston Rockets. The two-time NBA champion confirmed the blockbuster trade at a media event in New York on Sunday, marking the end of a whirlwind few weeks of negotiations.

The 36-year-old forward will officially join the Rockets on July 1 as part of a multi-player deal. In exchange, the Phoenix Suns will acquire guard Jalen Green, small forward Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, and five future second-round selections, according to reports from U.S. media outlets.

Durant expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “Being part of the Houston Rockets, I’m looking forward to it. It’s been a crazy last couple of weeks, but I’m glad it’s over. They had a great season last year, and I love their leadership. I feel like I’ll be a good addition.”

Durant, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and the 2014 NBA MVP, averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game last season with the Suns. Despite his impressive individual performance, the Suns finished 11th in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Rockets secured second place but were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

This move reunites Durant with Rockets head coach Ime Udoka, with whom he previously worked during their time with the Brooklyn Nets and the U.S. Olympic team. Udoka recently signed a long-term contract to remain with Houston, solidifying the team’s leadership.

Durant, the seventh-highest scorer in NBA history, won his two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018, earning the NBA Finals MVP award both times. His addition to the Rockets roster is expected to significantly bolster their quest for championship glory in the upcoming season.
