Chelsea have confirmed that England forward Lauren James will serve a spell on the sidelines following an ankle injury she sustained during international duty at Euro 2025.
The 23-year-old player joined Chelsea from Manchester United in 2021. While the duration of her absence for rehabilitation remains undetermined by the club, a statement released on Wednesday confirmed her return to the club's training ground and her immediate focus will be on recovery protocols.
James incurred the injury during England's victory over Spain in the final of the tournament last month, as the match went to penalties. She had previously been substituted at half-time during the semi-final match against Italy, indicating the injury was present before the decisive final clash.
This latest injury adds to a history of ankle problems that limited James' availability last season. Reports indicated she featured in only 17 of Chelsea's matches and scored four goals while dealing with various injuries throughout the year.
