Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool FC, has responded to former England and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney's remarks about the team's recent struggles. Rooney claimed that van Dijk and Mohamed Salah had not demonstrated leadership during Liverpool's recent poor form.

Van Dijk, who has won two Premier League titles with Liverpool, dismissed Rooney's criticism as "lazy" and "unconstructive." He emphasized that the team's success and challenges are shared responsibilities, not the fault of individual players.

"I know we do it together, trying to help each and every one of us to try to get out of this," van Dijk stated. "Last year when things go well you don't hear that at all."

Liverpool, currently third in the Premier League standings, faces crucial matches against Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League. Van Dijk expressed confidence in the team's ability to overcome challenges and stressed the importance of unity and perseverance.

"We all felt that we can work our way out of this," van Dijk added. "It's not a guarantee, but we can do it together. As long as we believe, stay humble, and keep working, we can do it."
