Liverpool's new right-back Jeremie Frimpong has been dealt a setback as he is ruled out of action until after the international break due to a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old Netherlands international, who made his Premier League debut for the Reds in their 4-2 victory over Bournemouth, was substituted during the match after displaying signs of a hamstring issue.

Frimpong's injury comes just weeks after he joined the club for a reported £29.5 million, replacing the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has since moved to Real Madrid. His absence will leave Liverpool's defensive options at right-back temporarily depleted, with coach Arne Slot acknowledging the challenge of managing the injury.

Speaking in a pre-match news conference, Slot humorously reflected on the decision to substitute Frimpong, clarifying that it was based on medical advice rather than his on-field performance. "I think I got criticised for taking him off, didn't I?" Slot quipped. "It had nothing to do with how he played, but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring - and by we, I mean the medical staff. It was a good call to take him off."

Frimpong is expected to return to action after the first international break of the season, which runs from September 1-9. Liverpool will resume their Premier League campaign on September 13-14, with a match against Burnley scheduled for the following Sunday.

In the interim, Slot will have to turn to other options, including Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, who have previously filled in at right-back. However, the coach also mentioned that Joe Gomez, who has had a history of injuries, is available for the match against Newcastle United on September 11, despite his limited training due to a recent substitution against Bournemouth.

The injury to Frimpong highlights the importance of depth in a congested Premier League schedule, as Liverpool navigate the early stages of the season with key players on the sidelines. The Reds will look to maintain their strong start to the season while managing their resources carefully.
