Lottie Woad has wasted no time announcing herself as the future of women’s golf, securing a stunning victory at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open in her first event as a professional. The 21-year-old’s three-shot win not only marked a historic debut but also sent a clear warning to her competitors: she’s here to dominate.
Woad joined an elite group, becoming just the third player in LPGA Tour history to win in her professional debut. Rose Zhang was the last to accomplish this in 2023, while Beverly Hanson achieved the feat back in 1951. The achievement is all the more remarkable given that Woad only recently turned pro, having previously forfeited significant prize money while competing as an amateur.
Her victory earned her $300,000, a welcome change from her amateur days. But it’s not just the money that’s changed—Woad’s composed demeanor and clinical play have already drawn comparisons to the sport’s most steely performers. Like Scottie Scheffler in the men’s game, Woad operates with a quiet intensity, proving that superstar talent doesn’t always need to seek the spotlight.
“She’s not scared to play among the big names, she can do it all,” said Dame Laura Davies, praising Woad’s fearlessness. Two-time Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew added, “There’s no real weakness to her game. She drives well, has a strong short game, and her iron play and putting are clutch.”
Woad’s path to professional glory began in amateur golf, where she consistently impressed. She first caught attention with a top-10 finish at the 2022 Madrid Open, before excelling at Florida State University, where she was named WGCA Freshman of the Year and ACC Golfer of the Year. Her breakthrough moment came in April 2024 when she won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, birdying three of the last four holes.
Leading by two shots heading into the final round in Scotland, Woad slept soundly—unfazed by the pressure. “Slept fine, yeah,” she laughed post-victory. Her calmness under pressure is just one of the traits that have golf insiders predicting superstardom.
With her name already on everyone’s lips, Woad’s next target is the AIG Women’s Open. If her debut is any indication, the golfing world better be ready for a new era of dominance. “She’s the one everybody is watching,” Davies noted—and for good reason
