Lyon has successfully secured the services of Tyler Morton from Liverpool for a reported sum of £15 million. The 22-year-old midfielder, hailing from Wirral, began his football journey with Liverpool's academy at the age of seven and was handed his senior debut in 2021.

Despite making 14 appearances across various competitions, Morton found it challenging to cement his position in Liverpool's starting lineup and was loaned out to Championship clubs Hull and Blackburn. He also played a crucial role in England's under-21 team's European Championship victory earlier this year.

Following Lyon's relegation to France's second division due to financial difficulties, the club managed to secure a return to Ligue 1 after a successful appeal. Meanwhile, Liverpool's manager Arne Slot has been actively strengthening the squad during the off-season, with a significant investment of over £250 million on new signings post their 2024-25 title win.

Transferring players, particularly academy products like Morton, is vital for Liverpool to comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability regulations. Another player who emerged from Liverpool's youth system, Jarrell Quansah, was recently sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million.

The move marks a new chapter in Morton's career as he joins Lyon in a bid to further develop and showcase his talent in the French top flight.
