In a nail-biting Uganda Cup encounter, Makerere Impis outlasted Victoria Sharks with a 24-19 win at the Graveyard on Saturday. The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.
The Impis made a flying start, with Edwin Muhumuza scoring a try in the opening three minutes after Darren Aine's kick for poles was charged down. However, this early lead only seemed to galvanize the Sharks, who responded with two converted tries before halftime to take a 9-point lead.
The first half was also marked by some drama, as Impis players Brian Ngabo and Matthew Musasizi were temporarily taken off the field for medical assessment after being shaken. Despite this setback, the Impis regrouped and made a strong comeback in the second half.
The turning point came when Henry Nsekuye stepped up to slot home three penalties and a conversion, giving the Impis the lead. Derrick Tumukunde added a try, and Musasizi's impressive shot from halfway instilled further confidence in the team.
Although the Sharks mounted a late challenge, scoring a try in the final stages, it was too little, too late. The Impis had already secured the win, and their strong second-half performance proved to be the deciding factor in the match.
