Manchester United have successfully reached an agreement with Brentford to sign forward Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £71 million. The Red Devils submitted an improved offer of £65 million plus £6 million in add-ons on Thursday, which was accepted by the Bees after their initial bid of £55 million plus £7.5 million was rejected earlier this summer.
Mbeumo, who has two years remaining on his current contract, is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days. There is growing optimism that the 24-year-old will join Manchester United’s squad for their preseason tour of the United States, which begins on Tuesday.
The Cameroonian forward has been a long-term target for United, with the club’s management believing he is an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s tactical system. Mbeumo’s impressive performance last season, where he scored 20 Premier League goals and provided seven assists, has solidified his reputation as one of the league’s top talents. His contributions were instrumental in Brentford securing a top-half finish.
Brentford reportedly felt that Mbeumo had earned the opportunity to move to a larger club this summer, provided his valuation was met. United’s improved offer has now facilitated the transfer, with the player set to bolster the club’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
With Mbeumo’s signing nearing completion, Manchester United’s focus will shift to managing player exits. Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have reportedly been granted additional time to explore potential moves away from Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, United continue to explore other transfer opportunities, particularly in the striker position. The club has shown interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Sesko, in particular, has been on United’s radar for several years, dating back to his time at RB Salzburg.
Mbeumo’s addition is expected to bring pace, creativity, and goal-scoring prowess to United’s attack, as he ranked among the league’s top performers in distance covered, sprints attempted, and speed last season. His 27 goal contributions earned Brentford 22 points, accounting for 40% of the team’s total tally, highlighting his impact on the pitch.
As the transfer window progresses, Manchester United fans will be eager to see how Mbeumo integrates into the squad and contributes to the club’s ambitions for the 2025-26 season.
