Manchester United continues to make strategic moves in the transfer market, with the club confirming the signing of 18-year-old Paraguayan full-back Diego Leon on a five-year deal. The young talent is set to join the Red Devils on July 1, 2025, as part of manager Ruben Amorim’s ongoing efforts to revamp the squad following a challenging season.
United’s recent transfer strategy has focused on acquiring promising young players at minimal costs, aligning with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Leon’s signing follows the arrivals of other youngsters like Chido Obi-Martin, Ayden Heaven, and Harley Emsden-James, as the club looks to build for the future.
According to transfer expert Adriano Savalli, Leon’s contract will run until 2030, with the teenager expected to arrive in England shortly. While it remains unclear whether Leon will feature in the first team immediately, reports suggest he may be assessed for a backup role to Patrick Dorgu or sent out on loan for further development.
This move could also signal the end of Luke Shaw’s tenure at Old Trafford. The veteran left-back has struggled with fitness issues in recent seasons, and Amorim’s preference for integrating young players into the squad may leave Shaw’s future in doubt.
Leon, valued at €4 million by Transfermarkt, is seen as a promising addition to United’s defensive options. Amorim, known for nurturing young talent, has previously highlighted the success of players like Geovany Quenda at Sporting Lisbon, who is now set to join Chelsea.
As United prepares for the new season, the club’s focus on youth development and cost-effective signings reflects a long-term strategy aimed at rebuilding the squad and restoring their competitive edge in the Premier League.
