Manchester United Stands Firm: Amorim Warns Suitors Over Player Valuations
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has issued a stern warning to rival clubs eyeing the club’s fringe players, stating that they will face a "shock" if they expect to secure cut-price deals. Amorim, who excluded several high-profile names—including Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho—from United’s preseason tour in the United States, made it clear that the club will not compromise on their valuations.
"Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada, and the club have set numbers for these players," Amorim said. "If those figures aren’t met, they will remain Manchester United players—no doubt about it. Some players need to find new opportunities, while others clearly seek fresh challenges. We’re giving them time to think and decide."
While Real Betis are keen to bring Antony back after his successful loan spell, and Juventus have shown interest in Sancho (though they need to offload players first), no deals are currently close. Amorim acknowledged that clubs may wait until the final days of the transfer window—slated to close on September 1—in hopes that United will lower their demands. However, the Portuguese manager remained resolute.
"Clubs might be waiting until the last minute, but they could be in for a surprise. I’m ready to welcome those players back into the squad," he emphasized.
United have strengthened their attack with the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, though they still seek a striker and a holding midfielder to address key weaknesses. Despite the pressure to reinforce the squad ahead of the new season, Amorim expressed satisfaction with his current group.
"The club must be cautious with signings. If we start the season with this squad, I’m happy because every player here wants to be here—and that’s the most important thing for me," he added.
Cunha, who rejected interest from Tottenham and Arsenal to join United, embraced the pressure of playing for the Red Devils. "The pressure here isn’t pressure—it’s a privilege," the Brazilian forward said. "When Ruben told me he wanted me to help restore the club to its former glory, it was a challenge I couldn’t resist."
United’s opening fixtures, including matches against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea, will put immediate scrutiny on the squad. However, Amorim and Cunha remain unfazed, confident that the current group can deliver results.
With the transfer window still open, United’s fringe stars face an uncertain future—but Amorim’s stance suggests they may yet find themselves back in contention at Old Trafford.
