Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha's wife, Gabriela, expedited their daughter's birth via caesarean section to enable her husband to join the club's pre-season tour.

Gabriela, a lawyer, requested the scheduled procedure, allowing Cunha to be present for the birth of their second child on Monday before departing with his new teammates to the United States.

The couple welcomed their daughter, Liz, who will join her five-year-old brother, Levi. Cunha, 26, shared the joyous news on Instagram, expressing his gratitude and blessing. He wrote, "Hello world, I'm Liz. And we are four now. I am very blessed to have you. Thanks God for everything."

Fellow United players Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee, along with former United defender Rio Ferdinand, extended their congratulations to the family.

Cunha, who finalized his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers last month after United activated his release clause, made his debut for the club in a friendly match against Leeds United in Stockholm on Saturday. The team touched down in Chicago on Tuesday evening and is set to compete in three matches against West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Everton before returning to England to face Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9. Their Premier League campaign kicks off on August 17 against Arsenal.

A source close to the family revealed that Gabriela recognized the significance of Cunha bonding with his new teammates before the season commencement. They jointly decided to schedule the elective C-section, ensuring Cunha could be by her side during the delivery. The source added that the couple trusts friends and family to support Gabriela and their newborn until Cunha's return.

Cunha and Gabriela exchanged vows in May 2024 in their hometown of Natal, Brazil. Reflecting on their wedding day, Cunha shared, "It was very emotional. I cried a lot! I saw my whole family there, my son... it was beautiful. My wife is amazing. It was a wonderful moment!"
