Morocco has advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament after a hard-fought victory over Tanzania. The match took place at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam, where Berkane football club forward Oussama Lamlioui netted the crucial goal in the 65th minute.
Assisted by Raja Casablanca midfielder Youssef Belammari, Lamlioui's goal secured the last four slot for Morocco in the tournament which is co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The Atlas Lions now eagerly await the outcome of the quarter-final match between Uganda and Senegal to know their opponents at the semi-final stage.
In another quarter-final clash, Madagascar made it to the semi-finals by defeating Kenya in a thrilling encounter that went to penalties. After a 1-1 draw in regular time, Madagascar emerged victorious with a 4-3 win in the penalty shoot-out. Despite Kenya taking the lead through Gor Mahia defender Alphonce Omija, Madagascar's Fenohasina Razafimaro equalized with a penalty in the 71st minute.
Madagascar's triumph means they will face either Sudan or Algeria in the semi-finals of the CHAN 2024 tournament. The semi-final stage promises to be an exciting affair as the remaining teams battle it out for a spot in the final of this prestigious African football competition.
