Morgan Gibbs-White has stayed behind as Nottingham Forest’s squad traveled to Portugal for pre-season preparations ahead of their Premier League campaign. The club confirmed the midfielder’s absence is linked to a “private personal matter” unrelated to football.
Gibbs-White’s fiancée, social media influencer Britney De Villiers, shared a heartfelt Instagram story from a hospital bed on Sunday, revealing struggles with a high-risk pregnancy. “To all mothers navigating high-risk pregnancies, you’re not alone,” she wrote. “This has been one of the most challenging experiences I’ve faced—constant stress and uncertainty.”
The couple, engaged during a Lake Como trip in June 2025, already have a son, Greyson, born in 2023. Forest officials emphasized Gibbs-White’s situation is temporary, with the England international expected to rejoin teammates later this week.
Meanwhile, off-field tensions persist between Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. Despite Spurs triggering Gibbs-White’s £60 million release clause, Forest filed legal objections citing unauthorized negotiations and confidentiality breaches. The Premier League has yet to receive formal complaints.
Forest’s pre-season schedule includes matches against Fulham (July 27), Estoril Praia, Birmingham City, Fiorentina, and Al Qadisiyah. Their 2025/26 league opener is slated for August 16.
