Uganda Cranes head coach, Paul Put, has expressed his commitment to the team ahead of the 2025 Africa Nations Cup, amid rumors linking him to the Cameroon national team. In an interview with Cafonline, Put revealed his focus on preparing the team for the tournament, while also hinting at a possible contract extension.
The Belgian coach, who led Burkina Faso to the 2013 Africa Nations Cup final, emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure Uganda Cranes performs well in Morocco. "We have played two World Cup qualifiers in October and have also used it as preparation, which will be followed by two friendlies in November," Put said.
Put outlined the team's upcoming schedule, including a closed camp in Kampala in early December, featuring an open session for fans, before flying to Rabat for further preparations. The team will play more internationals and final tune-ups before meeting Tunisia on December 23.
Uganda Cranes will face stiff competition in the group stage, up against Tunisia, football giants Nigeria, and neighboring Tanzania. Put acknowledged the strengths of each opponent, saying: "Nigeria is a perennial powerhouse with threats everywhere from their squad, boasting top talent and European experience."
He added, "Tunisia is highly organized, technical, and tactically astute, making them hard to break down. As for Tanzania, they bring a good mix of energy and familiarity – regional derbies are never easy."
Despite the challenges, Put expressed confidence in his team's abilities, stating, "We will respect all of them, but we are not intimidated. We will give a good account of ourselves."
This will be Uganda's eighth appearance at the Afcon, and their first since 2019 when they played in Egypt. With Put at the helm, the team aims to make a lasting impression in Morocco.
