The 2025 summer transfer window has come to a close, and the numbers are in: Premier League clubs have spent a record-breaking £3 billion on new signings, with a substantial portion of the funds going towards acquiring top strikers. The previous record of £2.44 billion, set in 2023, was surpassed by a significant margin, highlighting the intense competition and financial muscle of the top clubs in the league.

The record spending was led by Liverpool, who invested a staggering £446.5 million, making them the biggest spenders in the league. However, Arsenal had the highest net spend, with a whopping £257 million, followed closely by Liverpool at £218.4 million. Other big-spending clubs included Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

The focus on strikers was evident, with several top clubs investing heavily in goal-scorers. Alexander Isak's £125 million move from Newcastle to Liverpool was the most expensive signing of the window, followed by Florian Wirtz at £116.5 million. Other big-money moves included Hugo Ekitike's £79 million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool, Benjamin Sesko's £73.7 million move from RB Leipzig to Manchester United, and Bryan Mbeumo's £71 million transfer from Brentford to Manchester United.

At the other end of the spectrum, Bournemouth emerged from the window with a profit of £65.8 million, thanks to the sale of several star players, including defenders Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Illia Zabarnyi.

The trend of focusing on strikers was evident throughout the league, with top clubs investing heavily in goal-scorers. Manchester City, however, stood out as the only member of the so-called big six not to sign a striker, having started the season with Erling Haaland.
