The Premier League's promoted clubs, Leeds, Sunderland, and Burnley, have made a solid start to the season, raising hopes that they might avoid relegation. After nine games, the trio has accumulated 38 points between them, with Burnley, Leeds, and Sunderland sitting 12, 5, and 6 points clear of the relegation zone, respectively.

Sunderland, in particular, has been a surprise package, equaling their best Premier League start with 17 points from nine matches. Their 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday has further solidified their position, and they will end October fourth in the top flight. Only five newly promoted sides have earned more points than Sunderland in the same number of matches, and all five managed to survive relegation.

Leeds, who won the Championship last season, has also made a strong start, recording their third victory of the campaign with a 2-1 win over West Ham. The team's manager, Daniel Farke, is hopeful that they can maintain their momentum and turn Elland Road into a fortress. Leeds have won two, drawn two, and lost one game so far at home, giving them a better home record than several top-tier teams.

Burnley, meanwhile, has gone five points clear of the drop zone with a dramatic 3-2 win at Wolves. The team's manager, Scott Parker, is ecstatic about the back-to-back wins, which is a first for the club since 2022. With three league wins from nine games, the Clarets have also recorded more than half the victories they managed in their last top-flight season.

While all three promoted clubs have gone straight back down in the past two seasons, there is a glimmer of hope that this might be the fifth ever time where they stay up. The current bottom three consists of Wolves, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest, who have struggled to find their footing in the season so far.
