Jamaican-American rapper Sean Kingston has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for orchestrating a wire fraud scheme that defrauded vendors of luxury items exceeding $1 million. The 34-year-old artist, legally named Kisean Anderson, was convicted earlier this year alongside his mother, Janice Turner, who received a five-year sentence in July.
Prosecutors detailed how the pair exploited Kingston's celebrity status to deceive victims. The "Beautiful Girls" singer reportedly contacted merchants via social media, expressing interest in high-end products including designer watches, a 232-inch LED television, a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, and custom furniture. He allegedly lured suppliers to his Florida properties with promises of promotional social media posts and referrals to other celebrities.
When payments came due, Kingston and Turner supplied fabricated wire transfer receipts indicating nonexistent transactions. Text messages entered as evidence showed explicit coordination, with Kingston instructing his mother to "make fake receipt." Most victims never received compensation, though some secured payments after legal intervention.
Arrested in 2024 prior to a scheduled performance at a California military base, Kingston apologized to the court during sentencing proceedings. His defense attorney Zeljka Bozanic portrayed the artist as financially inexperienced, claiming he maintained "a teenager's mentality" after rising from poverty to sudden fame and lacked basic business management skills.
Kingston, known for collaborations with Justin Bieber on tracks like "Eenie Meenie" and his solo hit "Fire Burning," will begin serving the 3.5-year sentence immediately following the Florida court's ruling.
