Plans for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford's home debut match against Cesc Fabregas's Como side in the Joan Gamper Trophy have been significantly altered. Instead of the highly anticipated debut at the newly renovated Camp Nou, the fixture will be held at the Club's Johan Cruyff Stadium.
This decision follows the Nou Camp venue being unavailable due to commitments involving concerts, effectively ruling out the Estadi Lluis Companys, which was considered a suitable alternative last season.
Now set for Sunday, the match will take place at the 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff Stadium. While the venue change means Rashford will not face his home fans in the iconic men's stadium, the occasion still represents a significant milestone for the 27-year-old striker.
Rashford, who joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United in November, made his competitive debut for the club in a recent 5-0 victory over Daegu FC, scoring one goal. Despite facing potential registration hurdles for La Liga's opening fixture against Real Mallorca, the player remains optimistic the issue will be resolved.
Rashford stated, "It's something for the club to sort out. I believe they are going to get it sorted. I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season."
Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed confidence in the signing, highlighting Rashford's commitment and preparation, stating, "We signed this player because he was deeply committed to coming to Barcelona."
Meanwhile, tickets for the Gamper Trophy match are already on sale, with prices ranging dramatically from £120 upwards, reflecting the novelty of a player's home debut, even at an alternative venue.
