In a thrilling showdown in Birmingham, Francisco Rodriguez made history with his exceptional display against Galal Yafai, marking a new milestone in the world of flyweight boxing.

During the intense battle, Rodriguez, the former unified minimumweight champion, unleashed an astonishing 1,087 punches, connecting with 575 of them. Yafai, defending his WBC Interim crown, fought valiantly but struggled to fend off Rodriguez's relentless assault.

The remarkable punch output by Rodriguez shattered a 12-year record previously held by Giovani 'Azteca' Segura, who landed 474 punches in a fight against Hernan Marquez back in 2013. Notably, Juan Francisco Estrada and Michael Carbajal also featured in the list of top punchers in flyweight history.

Despite the intense competition, Rodriguez dominated the fight, outlanding Yafai by 23 or more punches in 9 out of the 12 rounds. DAZN commentator Adam Smith even suggested a rematch, although the physical toll endured by both fighters during the grueling contest makes it seem unlikely at this point.

With Rodriguez's upgraded record now at 40-6-1, his performance against Yafai adds another chapter to the rich history of flyweight boxing.
