Golf star Rory McIlroy has sparked amusement after spotting what appears to be his likeness on official Team USA Ryder Cup merchandise. The four-time major champion acknowledged the resemblance when questioned about a $65 Ralph Lauren polo shirt featuring a silhouetted golfer in a distinctive follow-through position.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, McIlroy responded with characteristic humor: "It looks more like Adam Scott than me, but yeah, it looks a little similar. I don't know." When presenter Jamie Weir suggested American fans might unintentionally sport McIlroy's image, the Northern Irishman quipped: "That's okay. That's fine. I won't mind that!"

Europe Prepares for U.S. Challenge

The incident comes as Team Europe gears up to defend their title at Bethpage Black from September 26-28. McIlroy emphasized the team's underdog status for the New York showdown: "Any time an away Ryder Cup comes to town, I do think we're still underdogs. It's a really tall task, but not an insurmountable one."

The 2023 champions face the added challenge of breaking Europe's 13-year winless streak on American soil, dating back to the famous 2012 "Miracle at Medinah." McIlroy expressed confidence in captain Luke Donald's preparations: "I think Luke's got everything under control and I'm sure he's thought of every single scenario."

"Since Rome two years ago, a lot has happened in golf. Getting us all together again to rebuild that team spirit will be crucial."

Golf fans can catch McIlroy and other Ryder Cup hopefuls in action at this week's BMW PGA Championship, live on Sky Sports Golf from Thursday morning.
