Manchester United's summer transfer activities are gaining momentum as manager Ruben Amorim eyes his second signing of the season. Despite the recent acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £63 million, the club has faced setbacks with key targets declining moves to Old Trafford.
Amorim, who took charge following a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League, is determined to revamp the squad. However, his plans have been thwarted as top striker target Liam Delap chose Chelsea over Manchester United. Additionally, Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kauã Santos has made it clear that he will not be joining the Red Devils.
Santos, who has a contract with Frankfurt until 2029, expressed his commitment to the German club. "The people in charge in Frankfurt have shown enormous trust in me. They wanted to continue working with me before these rumours even surfaced. They still have a lot of faith in me here, so it was clear to me that I wanted to extend my contract," Santos told Die Welt.
In more positive news for United, veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is set to extend his stay at Old Trafford by signing a new one-year contract. The 39-year-old, who has been with the club for four years in his second spell, will continue as the third-choice keeper under Amorim.
United's chief executive Omar Berrada remains optimistic about the club's transfer strategy. Berrada, who has overseen significant cost-cutting measures, expressed confidence in Amorim's vision and the club's plans for the summer window. "We’ve put ourselves in the best position possible by doing everything that we’ve had this year around cost-cutting. I’m confident that we will come out of the window with a much stronger team than what we’ve gone into," Berrada stated.
As the transfer window progresses, Manchester United fans will be keen to see how Amorim and his team navigate the challenges to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
