Italian giants AC Milan have secured a high-profile signing for the upcoming season, as manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed in his first press conference that Luka Modric will join the club in August. The move follows the Croatian captain's decision to end his 13-year tenure with Real Madrid after their Club World Cup campaign in the United States.

Described by Allegri as an "extraordinary player," the 39-year-old Modric brings a wealth of experience and accolades, including the 2018 Ballon d'Or, six Champions Leagues, and four La Liga titles won during his illustrious career with Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham in 2012.

Modric has been involved in Real Madrid's current Club World Cup run, making five substitute appearances, including in the thrilling 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund that set up a semi-final clash with Paris St-Germain on Wednesday.

The signing is a significant boost for AC Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last season. The club has seen recent departures, including midfielder Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City, and potential moves for Theo Hernandez to Al-Hilal. However, Allegri expressed optimism about retaining key players Mike Maignan and Rafael Leao for the next season, despite interest from Chelsea for the French goalkeeper.

AC Milan's league campaign under Allegri's second stint begins on 23 August against Cremonese.
