Singer Sophie Gombya has recounted a deeply disturbing event that transpired in her office involving a female artist from Iganga. The incident began when the artist reached out to Gombya, explaining her struggles with her sick child who was receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital and requested assistance from the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).
Three days later, on a Monday morning, the artist arrived at Gombya's office with a travel bag. Without warning, she declared her child had passed away and demanded financial support for the journey back to Iganga for the burial. In a shocking turn of events, the artist unzipped the bag to reveal the corpse inside, prompting Gombya to lose her composure.
Gombya reflected on the traumatic experience, stating, "The day I resigned from my position, I received a call from an artist in Iganga seeking help for her ailing child. When she came to my office days later, I was unprepared for the devastating revelation of her loss."
This incident has raised awareness about the challenges many families face when dealing with child illness and mortality in Uganda, underscoring the urgent need for support and resources.
