England manager Thomas Tuchel has issued a stern warning to Marcus Rashford, advising the forward to fully capitalize on his talents while playing for Barcelona. Despite Rashford's seven goal involvements in 10 appearances for the Spanish club, Tuchel believes the player can achieve much more.
Rashford, who joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United this summer, has scored three goals and provided four assists. While Tuchel acknowledges Rashford's potential, he stresses the need for the player to consistently deliver high-level performances.
"He can be one of the best in the world because of his finishing, quality, speed, and strength in the air," Tuchel said. "But the numbers don't match his potential. He needs to push himself more in terms of goal involvements."
Tuchel revealed that he regularly communicates with Rashford, emphasizing the importance of making the most of his abilities. "He is still young enough to make crucial decisions," Tuchel added. "Otherwise, he might regret missed opportunities later in his career."
Rashford has been a regular in Tuchel's England squads since the manager took charge in March. He missed only the summer internationals against Senegal and Andorra due to an injury sustained while on loan at Aston Villa.
In England's recent 3-0 victory over Wales, Rashford came off the bench, replacing former Villa teammate Ollie Watkins. He is expected to feature again when England faces Latvia on Tuesday, a match that could secure their qualification for the World Cup.
Tuchel's comments come as England prepares for their upcoming fixtures, including matches against Serbia and Albania in November. The manager also confirmed that captain Harry Kane will return to the squad for the Latvia game, having recovered from an ankle injury.
As England aims to qualify for the World Cup, Tuchel's message to Rashford serves as a reminder of the high expectations placed on the young forward. With his talent and potential, Rashford has the opportunity to become one of the world's top players, but he must first prove himself on a consistent basis.
