Tottenham Hotspur have reached a £34 million agreement with Atletico Madrid to acquire midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to Sky Sports sources. The North London club accelerated their pursuit following Rodrigo Bentancur's season-disrupting hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old England international becomes Spurs' latest midfield reinforcement after competing with Aston Villa for his signature. Both Premier League sides initially approached the Spanish club, but negotiations ultimately favored Tottenham's long-standing interest in the player.
"Gallagher brings proven Premier League experience with 136 appearances across West Brom, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea before his 2024 move to Spain," noted Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.
Gallagher, who joined Atletico for £38m in August 2024, had previously expressed desires for more consistent playing time despite maintaining professionalism during his La Liga stint. His current contract with the Madrid club runs through 2029.
The transfer marks Tottenham's latest strategic move under manager Thomas Frank, demonstrating the club's commitment to strengthening their squad during the January window. Gallagher's versatility and work rate are expected to bolster Spurs' midfield options as they push for European qualification.
