Tottenham Hotspur is exploring the possibility of a £15 million sale of their captain, Son Heung-min, to Major League Soccer (MLS) club LAFC, according to recent reports. The South Korean star, who has been a pivotal figure at the North London club since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for a fee of £22 million, faces an uncertain future as the club prepares for its pre-season tour of Asia.

Despite the Spurs’ challenging domestic performance last season, Son played a key role in their Europa League triumph, becoming the first captain to lift a trophy since Ledley King in 2008. Manager Thomas Frank has expressed openness to Son’s potential departure, emphasizing his current commitment and fitness, while noting that long-term players often face such decisions. However, a move is unlikely to happen immediately, as Son is expected to remain with the squad for their upcoming matches, including a friendly against Newcastle in Seoul on August 3.

If Tottenham sells Son before that fixture, they risk losing up to 75% of the transfer fee, as the club’s contract with the player includes clauses tied to his participation in the pre-season tour. The 33-year-old, who scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 30 Premier League games last season, remains a fan favorite in South Korea and across Asia. His potential exit has sparked discussions, though he is reportedly involved in ongoing talks with the club.

Tottenham has been busy in the transfer market this summer, securing West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus and finalizing a permanent deal for Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel. Meanwhile, their pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has stalled after the club halted negotiations, citing concerns over the approach’s legality. The situation surrounding Son’s future remains fluid, with the possibility of him staying to fight for his place or moving to the MLS later this summer.
