The Toyota Buffaloes have emerged as the dominant force in the National 7s Series this season, securing the top spot after three tournament stops. Once celebrated as the Kings of 7s Rugby during 2013–2015, the Kyadondo-based team is now focused on reclaiming their former prestige with a new generation of players, including Daniels Otim and Humphrey Ndahura. Their strategy of maintaining consistency has yielded impressive results, outperforming rivals like the Heathens.

This year, the Buffaloes have consistently reached the semifinals across three circuits, claiming third place at the Coronation 7s, a title at the Gulu 7s, and a runner-up finish at the Entebbe 7s. In contrast, the Heathens achieved a mix of second, ninth, and first-place finishes. While both teams have secured one circuit win and two finals appearances, the Buffaloes’ record of podium finishes—never dropping below third—has set them apart. Coach Charles Onen emphasized the importance of stability, stating, “A podium finish is a good place to be and requires hard work. The team has a chance to do better than last season, so the medal bracket is the way to go.”

With their sights set on the upcoming Rujumba 7s, where they finished fifth last year, the Buffaloes aim to build on their current momentum. Their recent performance at the Kings Park Arena, which saw them secure a strong finish, underscores their determination to rise above past achievements and establish themselves as a perennial contender in the series.

Looking ahead, the team’s focus remains on refining their gameplay and sustaining their high level of performance. As the National 7s Series progresses, the Buffaloes’ dedication to consistency may prove pivotal in their quest to reclaim national dominance.
