An Inter Milan goalkeeper has been caught in a tragic accident involving an electric wheelchair collision that claimed the life of the wheelchair user.

The incident occurred in the province of Como, Italy. Police confirmed that the wheelchair collided with Martinez's vehicle, stating the wheelchair appeared to have veered into the path of the car.

Martinez, who was driving his own car, immediately stopped to provide assistance. However, the man in the wheelchair did not survive; he died before emergency medical help arrived.

In response to the unfortunate event, Inter Milan announced the cancellation of a scheduled press conference for Tuesday, which was intended to preview their upcoming Serie A match against Fiorentina on Wednesday.

As of now, the football club has chosen not to comment on the circumstances of the accident. Martinez, the club's second-choice goalkeeper, joined Inter from Genoa in 2024.

At just 27 years old, Martinez has represented Spain internationally once, in 2021. He has previously played for teams including Las Palmas and RB Leipzig, and has made 12 appearances for Inter so far this season.

The local authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident. The situation has brought significant regret and sadness to the football community.
