Trump Advises Against Targeting Iran's Supreme Leader, Reports Reveal

Former President Donald Trump reportedly advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against a plan to assassinate Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to three U.S. officials speaking with CBS News.

Sources suggest that Trump expressed his opposition to the assassination idea during a conversation with Netanyahu, stating it was not a prudent course of action. However, Trump has yet to publicly address these claims.

This discussion is believed to have taken place following Israel's recent military actions against Iran, which commenced last Friday. In a Fox News interview, Netanyahu refrained from confirming or denying the reports regarding Trump’s disapproval. "There are many false reports of conversations that never took place, and I’m not going to delve into that," he stated. "What I can confirm is that we will act as necessary, and the U.S. is aware of what serves its interests."

According to an Israeli official, the nation does not typically target political leaders for assassination but focuses on nuclear and military threats instead. The official emphasized that key decision-makers in those programs should not operate without consequences.

Israel commenced strikes against Iranian nuclear sites and other strategic targets on Friday, which resulted in the death of Mohammad Kazemi, the head of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) intelligence unit, along with other military personnel. The ongoing conflict has seen both nations engaging in significant military exchanges that have now extended into a third day.

In a recent post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump remarked that Iran and Israel should reach a diplomatic agreement, claiming he could mediate peace as he did between India and Pakistan during his presidency. He also insisted that the U.S. had no involvement in the recent attacks on Iran, asserting, "If we are attacked in any way, the full might of the U.S. Armed Forces will respond with unprecedented force."
