President Donald Trump has announced that Coca-Cola will transition from using corn syrup to cane sugar in its beverages sold in the United States. The decision, according to Trump, aligns with health concerns raised by his Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has criticized the health impacts of corn syrup.

"I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so," Trump stated in a social media post. "This will be a very good move by them - You'll see. It's just better!" he added.

While Coca-Cola has not explicitly confirmed the ingredient change, a spokesperson acknowledged Trump's enthusiasm and hinted at upcoming details about new innovations in their product lineup. "We appreciate President Trump's enthusiasm," the spokesperson said, adding that more information would be shared soon.

Currently, Coca-Cola products in the US are primarily sweetened with corn syrup, unlike in countries like Mexico, where cane sugar is used. The company has been actively working on reducing sugar content in its beverages, as highlighted by CEO James Quincey in a recent investor meeting. Quincey emphasized Coca-Cola's efforts to reformulate recipes and promote healthier options globally.

However, the potential switch to cane sugar could have significant economic implications. John Bode, President and CEO of the Corn Refiners Association, warned that such a move could threaten thousands of American jobs, harm farm income, and increase reliance on imported sugar, with no proven nutritional advantage.

Trump's Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has been a vocal advocate for eliminating ingredients like corn syrup, seed oils, and artificial dyes from food products, linking them to various health issues. Kennedy is also reportedly planning to update nationwide dietary guidelines this summer to address excessive sugar consumption.

Notably, Trump is a known fan of Diet Coke, which uses the artificial sweetener aspartame. His affinity for the beverage is so strong that he had a button installed in the Oval Office's Resolute desk to request it on demand.

As the debate over America's dietary choices continues, the potential shift in Coca-Cola's recipe raises questions about its broader impact on the food industry and public health.
