Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono is set to make history this week with its largest-ever graduation ceremony. A total of 1,524 students will receive their degrees on Thursday, July 4th, marking a significant milestone for the institution. Among the graduates, 860 are female, representing 56% of the cohort, while 664 are male, accounting for 44%. Notably, 49 students have achieved first-class honors, showcasing the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
Dr. David Mugawe, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, attributed the record-breaking number of graduates to UCU’s supportive learning environment. “This is our 26th graduation, part of the four ceremonies we hold annually,” Dr. Mugawe stated. “The first is at our main campus in Mukono, followed by events in October, Mbale, and Kabale.” He emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting, “Our first intake was around 200 students. Today, we’re graduating over 1,500. This growth reflects the university’s strength and progress.”
Highlighting the academic accomplishments of the graduating class, Dr. Mugawe revealed that 24 of the first-class degrees were earned by female students, while 25 were awarded to their male counterparts. The ceremony will also honor standout performers, including Diana Nansubuga, the best female student with a GPA of 4.80 in Computer Science, and Timothy Kiarbo, the best male student and overall top performer with a GPA of 4.96 in Procurement and Logistics Management.
Dr. Mugawe commended the first-class graduates for their dedication and hard work, stating that their achievements are a testament to UCU’s focus on fostering academic distinction. As the university prepares to celebrate this historic event, it continues to solidify its reputation as a leading institution in Uganda’s higher education landscape.
