The Uganda Cranes delivered a resounding performance, defeating Mozambique 4-0 at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole during the 2025 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The victory marked their fourth win in the qualifiers, elevating them to second position in Group G with 12 points.

The match, played under floodlights in front of a lively crowd of nearly 35,000 spectators, was goalless at halftime despite several promising chances. However, the second half saw the Uganda Cranes come alive, with four unanswered goals.

Allan Okello broke the deadlock in the 48th minute with a stunning 35-yard shot that sailed past Mozambique's goalkeeper Ivan Urrubal. Rogers Mato doubled the lead just two minutes later, but his effort hit the crossbar. Mato eventually found the back of the net again in the 69th minute, thanks to a pass from Steven Desse Mukwala, making it 2-0.

Mato scored his second goal of the night in the 85th minute, courtesy of Okello's drive into the box, making it 3-0. The final nail in the coffin came when defender Elio Capradossi headed home Okello's curling corner kick at the stroke of full-time, securing a 4-0 victory.

Uganda Cranes' coach, Joseph Paul Put, praised his team's performance, saying, "It was a good revenge over Mozambique having lost 3-1 to them. I congratulate all the boys for the performance." He also urged fans to turn out in larger numbers for the next game against Somalia on September 8, 2025.

The win puts Uganda Cranes in a strong position in Group G, level on points with Mozambique but with a superior goal difference. Their next challenge is a home game against fellow CECAFA member Somalia on September 8, 2025.
