Uganda has commenced emergency evacuations of its nationals trapped in conflict-stricken Iran and Israel following the eruption of hostilities between the two nations on June 13, 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed initial operations have successfully extracted 48 Ugandan students from Tehran under a prearranged evacuation strategy.

In an official statement, the Ministry disclosed: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working alongside diplomatic missions and partner agencies, has activated measures to guarantee secure evacuation pathways for our citizens affected by the Iran-Israel conflict.” Authorities registered students in Iran while gathering information about stranded individuals in Israel through family appeals.

Diplomatic channels are actively engaging neighboring nations—including Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar—to arrange visa-free entry corridors for evacuees. “We've formally requested these governments grant gratis visas upon arrival to facilitate transit,” the Ministry stated. Embassy teams across the region have deployed officers to receive evacuees and coordinate repatriation.

Significant obstacles persist, however, as Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire emphasized: “Both Iran and Israel maintain closed airspaces indefinitely, creating complex transport challenges amid volatile ground conditions.” Despite delays, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to secure all distressed citizens, urging families to contact the Consular Department via consular@mofa.go.ug for evacuation assistance.
