The 2023 Safari 7s will always be remembered for the impressive performance of Roy Bartholomew Kizito, who showcased his skills by effortlessly running down the flank and leaving opponents in his wake. The then-youthful Makerere Impis winger's outstanding display not only earned him a spot in the National 7s team but also left a lasting impression on the tournament.
The Rugby Cranes' bronze medal win in 2023 was a highlight, with Aaron Ofoyrwoth taking home the top points scorer award. However, the team's fortunes took a downturn in 2024, when a largely inexperienced "Emerging Cranes" side competed in the men's category and finished 3 places lower in 6th position. Despite this, the team gained invaluable experience, with four players returning to the side this year.
In the men's category, the Uganda Rugby Cranes will be represented by the National 7s champions, Walukuba Barbarians, but will face stiff competition from KCB Rugby, the champions of the Kanya 7s. The Cranes will also be up against Nyati and Shogun Rugby on Day 1 and Day 2 of the Safari 7s.
The pool play schedule has been announced, with the Uganda Rugby Cranes set to face off against Nyati on Friday, October 10th at 6:34 PM, followed by a match against KCB Rugby on Saturday, October 11th at 12:43 PM. The Cranes will also take on Shogun Rugby on the same day at 6:08 PM.
