Uganda's Junior Silverbacks secured their first victory of the ongoing Afrobasket U16 tournament with a decisive 73-53 win against Guinea in Kigali, Rwanda. This victory comes as a relief to the team, as they had previously suffered losses to Cameroon and Mali, putting them in a tough spot in the competition.
The game began with Guinea taking an early lead, scoring 18 points in the first quarter while Uganda managed only 11. However, Uganda made a strong comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Guinea 14-11 to trail by just four points at halftime.
In the third quarter, Uganda showcased their resilience and took control of the game, leading by two points (46-44). They continued to dominate in the final quarter, limiting Guinea to only nine points while securing a significant lead that ultimately led to their victory.
The Silverbacks' victory was fueled by impressive performances from key players. Pierre Laurent and Shammah Kwizera led the team with double-doubles, contributing 13 points and 19 rebounds and 14 assists and 10 rebounds respectively. Additionally, Shane Kwizera and Lucas Ssenyonjo joined the party with 14 and 13 points respectively.
