Busitema University's Rayan Ahmed Kakomo Named FISU Student Ambassador for 2025-2026
Busitema University student Rayan Ahmed Kakomo has made history as the first Ugandan to be appointed as a FISU (International University Sports Federation) student ambassador for the 2025-2026 academic year. The prestigious title was confirmed by FISU President Leonz Eder during a recent ceremony, marking a significant milestone in Kakomo's academic and athletic career.
Kakomo, who is also the president of the 15th Games Union at Busitema University, expressed his gratitude for the honor. "It is a great honor to be appointed as a FISU Ambassador," he said. The role, he added, comes with both responsibility and privilege, as it provides him with a unique opportunity to contribute to the global mission of fostering excellence in university sports, advancing cultural exchange, and empowering student-athletes worldwide.
As one of 126 student ambassadors selected globally, Kakomo joins representatives from 18 African countries, including Algeria, Botswana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and others. His appointment highlights Uganda's growing influence in international university sports and underscores the importance of cultural diversity and student-athlete empowerment in global athletic competitions.
Kakomo, a dedicated table tennis player, views his new role as a platform to promote the values of FISU while bridging the gap between education and sports on a global scale. "I am committed to upholding the values of FISU and working to strengthen the bridge between education and sport on the global stage," he stated.
FISU, established on January 1, 1949, with its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, is a leading organization in the promotion of university sports worldwide. The federation currently has 165 member associations, including Uganda. Among its leadership, Penninah Aligawesa Kabenge from Uganda serves as one of the regional vice presidents under President Leonz Eder, alongside Luciano Cabral (Brazil), Marian Dymalski (Poland), and Liu Jin (China).
Kakomo's appointment not only reflects his personal achievements but also stands as a testament to the potential of young athletes and scholars in Uganda and beyond. As he takes on this new role, he is poised to make a meaningful impact on the global stage of university sports.
