Uganda DanceSport Crew Impresses at 2025 FEASSA Kick-Off in Kakamega

Thousands gathered at the Bukhungu International Stadium in Kakamega county on Friday, August 15, 2025, to witness the official start of the 22nd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Association (FEASSA) Games. Organized by Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) in collaboration with Kakamega county, the multi-sport event promises a diverse program featuring a wide array of competitions, including established sports like soccer and basketball, as well as newer additions such as Cricket and the Olympic sport, DanceSport.

Prior to the main ceremony, a preparatory match was held between Uganda's Budo SS and Kenya's Butere SS, resulting in a 1-1 draw. The highlight of the proceedings, however, came from the Uganda contingent, specifically their DanceSport members. These performers captivated the spectators and guests with an energetic display of popping, acrobatic, and rhythmic dance moves, showcasing the discipline's Olympic credentials. The positive reception underscored the potential appeal of DanceSport as part of the FEASSA program.

FEASSA President Justus Mugisha expressed his delight with the turnout and the expanding scope of the games, extending a warm welcome to the participating nations, including the debutantes from the Ivory Coast. Representing President William Ruto, Dr. Julius Migos Ogamba, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, emphasized the unifying power of the event, urging attendees to fully immerse themselves in the festivities planned across Kakamega county throughout the Games. The competition schedule continues into the weekend and beyond, offering Kenyan and international schools a platform to compete in numerous disciplines at the Bukhungu stadium and other venues within the county.
