Uganda's celebrated netball squad, the She Cranes, has swiftly redirected its attention to the Africa Netball Cup after clinching victory at the 2025 Celtic Cup in Glasgow. The continental championship, scheduled for December 8-14 in Malawi's capital Lilongwe, will feature eight competing nations.
Team captain Lilian Ajio emphasized the psychological boost from their Scottish success: "The Celtic Cup tested our limits, but prevailing as champions proves our dedication. While we've identified areas needing refinement, I believe we're shaping into a formidable unit for the Africa Cup."
This year's tournament carries added significance as it doubles as a qualifying pathway for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney. Uganda finds itself in Pool A with neighboring nations Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, while Pool B comprises host country Malawi alongside South Africa, Botswana, and Tanzania.
The She Cranes enter the competition seeking redemption after falling 65-50 to South Africa in last year's final - a setback attributed to disrupted preparations following Uganda's two-year netball suspension. With improved training conditions and recent competitive experience, the team appears poised for a stronger continental showing.
