Al-Hilal has officially announced the signing of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, securing the player on a three-year contract. The Saudi Pro League club reportedly paid €53 million (£46.3 million) for the 26-year-old forward.

Nunez's move to Anfield came in June 2022 when he joined Liverpool from Portuguese team Benfica for an initial fee of £64 million. During his tenure at Liverpool, Nunez made 143 appearances and scored 40 goals. However, his role diminished in the 2024-25 season under new manager Arne Slot, with Nunez starting only eight Premier League games during the title-winning campaign and scoring just seven goals in 47 appearances.

Liverpool released a statement expressing gratitude for Nunez's contributions and wishing him and his family the best for the future. Nunez has already joined Al-Hilal's squad for their pre-season training camp in Germany. His departure might influence Liverpool's interest in Sweden's Alexander Isak, as Newcastle United previously rejected an initial offer of £110 million for the striker.

Nunez made an immediate impact at Liverpool, scoring on his debut in the 2022 Community Shield against Manchester City and again in his Premier League debut. However, a series of minor injuries and managerial changes affected his consistency, limiting his opportunities for a regular starting role.

In total, Nunez scored 25 goals in 95 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, with 46 of those appearances coming off the bench. His departure marks the end of a chapter for the forward, who will now look to make his mark in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal.

More details on this developing story are expected to follow.
