Max Verstappen has expressed gratitude toward Christian Horner following the announcement of Horner’s departure as Red Bull Racing’s team boss. The decision, effective immediately, marks the end of a remarkable era for the team under Horner’s leadership, which began in 2005.
Verstappen, who joined Red Bull from Toro Rosso in 2016, acknowledged the pivotal role Horner played in his career. The Dutch driver made an immediate impact, securing a debut victory at the Spanish Grand Prix and going on to dominate the sport with 65 race wins, 116 podiums, and four consecutive Drivers’ Championships from 2021 to 2024.
In a heartfelt social media post, Verstappen wrote, “From my first race win to four World Championships, we have shared incredible successes. Winning memorable races and breaking countless records. Thank you for everything, Christian!”
Laurent Mekies, previously with Racing Bulls, will step into Horner’s role starting with the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix. Mekies’ replacement at Racing Bulls will be Alan Permane, who joined the team earlier this year as Racing Director.
Horner’s departure signals a new chapter for Red Bull Racing, as the team looks to maintain its dominance in Formula 1 under fresh leadership. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the transition unfolds.
