Arsenal are in the final stages of securing a €73.5 million (£63.5 million) deal to acquire Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. The negotiations between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage, with an agreement on the transfer fee—including add-ons—expected to be finalized soon.
The 27-year-old forward has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract with the Gunners. Once the remaining details of the club-to-club agreement are settled, the move is anticipated to be swiftly completed.
This deal comes after Arsenal's earlier bid of €70 million (£60 million) was improved to meet Sporting's valuation. The North London club had shifted their focus to Gyokeres after encountering difficulties in their pursuit of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, traveled to Lisbon last week to spearhead the negotiations. Gyokeres, who scored an impressive 54 goals in 52 games last season, has been a standout performer for Sporting, helping the club secure two league titles during his two-year stint in Portugal.
However, the striker has recently been embroiled in controversy after failing to report for pre-season training. Sporting president Frederico Varandas has confirmed that Gyokeres is facing disciplinary action, stating, "No one is above the interests of the club." The player has yet to publicly address his absence.
Gyokeres, who previously played for Brighton and Coventry, has a remarkable record of 97 goals in 102 matches for Sporting. His potential arrival at Arsenal could significantly bolster the Gunners' attacking options as they aim to compete for major honors in the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing transfer story.
