Chelsea have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of forward Joao Pedro. The 23-year-old Brazilian has agreed terms on a seven-year contract and is expected to join Thomas Tuchel's side after undergoing a medical and completing the formalities.
Pedro is set to fly to the USA to join Chelsea at the Club World Cup, having been granted permission to play for the Blues in the tournament. Clubs are allowed to register players between June 27 and July 3 for the competition.
Newcastle United had expressed interest in Pedro, but the striker's heart was set on a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's bid of over £50 million was enough to secure his services, while Watford - Pedro's former club, who sold him to Brighton for £35 million in 2023 - will receive 20% of the profit from the sale.
In addition to Pedro's arrival, Chelsea are also close to securing the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. Gittens is set to sign a seven-year contract at Chelsea, with a fee of €65 million (approximately £55.5 million) agreed for the 20-year-old.
However, Gittens will not be eligible to play for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, having already featured for Dortmund in their opening group game against Fluminense.
