Florent Ibenge, the charismatic coach who led RS Berkane to victory in the Caf Confederation Cup, has set his sights on challenging the dominance of Simba and Young Africans in Tanzanian football. The experienced DR Congo tactician, who has managed several African clubs and the DR Congo national team, joins Azam FC from Sudan's Al Hilal.

"I am thrilled to be joining Azam FC - a club with ambition and immense potential," said Ibenge, who guided the Democratic Republic of Congo's Leopards to victory at the 2016 CHAN tournament. "Yes, we are aware of the strength of Simba and Young Africans, but we also possess the quality and determination to compete. My mission is to win and elevate this club to its rightful place," he added.

The former RS Berkane coach is well-aware of the competitive nature of Tanzanian football, with Simba reaching the final of the Caf Confederation Cup and Young Africans sweeping all domestic trophies last season. "The competition in Tanzania is fierce. We must work diligently, maintain focus, and rise to the challenge. I didn't come here for a holiday; I came to fight for success," Ibenge stated.

Ibenge's primary objective will be to lead Azam FC to the group stages of the Caf Confederation Cup, where they represent Tanzania. Azam, who last won a trophy in the 2018/19 Federation Cup, has since found itself lagging behind both Simba and Young Africans.

The appointment of Ibenge, who won the league with Al Hilal, led AS Vita to the Champions League final, and consistently competed in the group stages of inter-club continental competitions, signals a clear message of revival at Azam.
