Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shifted his focus to the upcoming season after his team suffered a surprising 4-3 loss to Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup. The Premier League champions were eliminated in a thrilling extra-time clash at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium, marking a disappointing end to their campaign.

City took an early lead with Bernardo Silva’s ninth-minute goal but failed to capitalize on numerous chances. Al-Hilal turned the game around with goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom, forcing the match into extra time. Erling Haaland equalized for City, and Phil Foden later matched Kalidou Koulibaly’s header, but Leonardo sealed the win for Al-Hilal in the 112th minute.

Guardiola acknowledged the team’s efforts but admitted shortcomings in both defense and attack. “It is a pity. We have been on an incredible journey together and were in a good place,” he said. “We created a lot, but we were so open. Now it’s time to rest and prepare for the new season.”

The defeat highlights the growing competitiveness of Saudi Arabian football, with Al-Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi praising his team’s resilience. “We had to do something extraordinary against one of the best teams in the world,” Inzaghi said. “The players showed immense heart, and we deserved this result.”

Manchester City, who were favorites to advance, will now regroup as they aim to bounce back in the Premier League and other competitions.
