On Friday, June 20, 2025, ACTS Fund Uganda organized a Twitter (X) Space discussion centered around the critical topic of childhood trauma. The event, titled "Managing Childhood Trauma," aimed to shed light on this often-overlooked mental health issue and provide actionable insights for healing and support.

Hosted by Charles Ssenabulya, the session featured renowned mental health experts Mrs. Diana Kibuuka and Mr. Gideon Tomusange. The discussion delved into various aspects of childhood trauma, including its appearance, lingering effects on adult life, associated mental health challenges, and strategies for societal support.

Mr. Tomusange emphasized that trauma transcends mere events and is deeply rooted in the child's emotional experience. He highlighted that trauma can begin as early as the labor ward and often manifests in adult struggles stemming from childhood experiences such as abuse, neglect, fear, or loss.

Mrs. Kibuuka stressed the importance of older generations in aiding children's healing. She advocated for love, listening, and support, particularly in schools, to address the challenges children face in expressing themselves and comprehending life. She urged society to replace judgment with care and understanding, guiding children through their traumatic experiences.

The session underscored that while childhood trauma is prevalent and deeply rooted, healing is attainable with the right support. ACTS Fund Uganda encouraged parents, teachers, and the community to actively engage in safeguarding children's mental health, fostering an environment of awareness and proactive care.
