The Kabale 7s: Barbarians Chase Buffaloes

The National 7s Series heads to Kabale for its sixth round of competition, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown. The Barbarians currently lead the men's standings by a narrow margin of 12 points over the formidable Buffaloes, making this weekend's encounter crucial. The remaining Heathens face an uphill battle to challenge for the title, relying on the Barbarians finishing sixth and the Buffaloes third or worse in the final two circuits.

West African Dominance

The African side from the West continues to perform strongly, with the Buffaloes showing particular form. Having claimed titles in Tooro 7s (2022, 2023) and Mbarara 7s (2024), the KOBs are expected to be major contenders at Kabale, where they finished runners-up in 2021. The Pirates, victors in that previous final, have shown significant improvement this season, climbing from outside the top eight to win the Rujumba 7s.

The Barbarians, while leading the overall standings, boast impressive success in Kabale specifically, having won invitational tournaments there previously.

Ladies' Competition Heats Up

In the women's category, the race is tightening, with the Thunderbirds leading the pack with 96 points, closely followed by the Avengers on 90. The other four teams have struggled with consistency: Nile Rapids won two early circuits but underperformed in Rujumba, while She Wolves and Walukuba Titans failed to replicate semifinal form in later rounds or reach back-to-back finals, respectively. The Black Pearls also won one circuit but were inconsistent elsewhere.

The Pirates, champions of the men's circuit last time out, return to Kabale eager to defend their title, while the Barbarians look to continue their strong Kabale tradition. The stage is set for a decisive battle and a title ceremony.
