DJ Akio Secures Key Role at World of Sounds Concert Series

Prominent R&B disc jockey and creative director DJ Akio Kawahito has been confirmed as a featured performer for the second installment of the World of Sounds concert series. The highly anticipated R&B Edition will take place on August 29, 2025, at Kampala's Sheraton Hotel Gardens.

International Headliner and Local Talent

British music icon Craig David will headline the event, marking his debut performance in Uganda. Known for global hits including "7 Days" and "Walking Away," David leads a lineup featuring Uganda's premier R&B talents such as Kenneth Mugabi, Irene Ntale, Juliana Kanyomozi, Benon & Vampos, Steve Keys, Naava Gray, Laika Music, and Unknown Prosper.

Akio's Signature Contributions

Beyond his DJ set, Akio will curate the event's interactive "Jukebox" fan engagement segment and energize the official After Party at Noni Vie Parking, themed "R&B and Slow Jams." Event producer Bushington emphasized: "World of Sounds Season 2 isn't just a concert—it's a celebration of rhythm, soul, and artistic fusion."

The DJ's Musical Journey

With a multicultural background (Japanese-Dutch heritage) and international upbringing, Akio developed his passion for 90s R&B—which he considers the genre's golden era—while starting as a hip-hop DJ. His versatile sets now skillfully blend R&B with dancehall, Amapiano, and Afro House, building crowd energy through dynamic tempo shifts and increased microphone engagement.

The concert series debuted successfully at Kampala Serena Hotel in October 2023. This R&B-focused follow-up promises immersive art, cultural expression, and memorable musical experiences across Africa.
