Football icon Paul Gascoigne, affectionately known as Gazza, was hospitalized after being discovered semi-conscious at his home in Poole, Dorset, on Friday evening. The 58-year-old former England and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was found by his close friend and personal assistant, Steve Foster, who immediately rushed him to the hospital.
Gascoigne was initially admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) but has since been transferred to an acute medical ward, where his condition has been described as stable. Foster, who has been a steadfast support to the football legend, confirmed that Gascoigne is recovering well and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and fans.
"Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now," Foster said. "He would like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best."
Gascoigne’s family, including his daughter Bianca, his two sisters, and former teammates such as Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Paul Merson, and Vinnie Jones, have been kept informed of his condition. The football legend is expected to remain in the hospital for several days as he undergoes further treatment.
Throughout his illustrious career, Gascoigne earned 57 caps for England, scoring ten goals between 1988 and 1998. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest playmakers of his generation, with memorable moments including his emotional reaction during the 1990 World Cup semi-final and his stunning goal at Euro 1996.
This recent health scare comes amid personal challenges for Gascoigne, including the dissolution of his company earlier this month due to missed filing deadlines. Despite stepping back from his day-to-day involvement, his former booking agent Katie Davies has continued to support him from afar.
As the football community rallies around him, fans and colleagues alike are hoping for a swift recovery for the beloved star, whose contributions to the sport have left an indelible mark on its history.
